The Chosen - Part One (Strke a pose)

I was at a Fall Fashion Show/Exhibition last spring. No this is not a typo. The merchandise are always kind of one season ahead. The fall season merchandise is exhibited in the spring season or earlier. Well, I was on the organizing side of this show and I got to see and learn a lot . I always do. Having been blessed to experience at least seven major industries, I would tell you that Show Business is the busiest with its high level production and maintenance . It is not the most studious, intricate or fragile, but it is the one that aims most for visual perfection and thereby leaves little or no margin for error. The surrounding ambiance is so believable, it could be real. Bustling activities and narrow time frames, could hike stress levels and tamper with frayed nerves. But we are not complaining. If it is what you are supposed to do and you love it, then you take it all in stride.

So back to the show. All the designers had their merchandise on display. Some used mannequins and others paid for real life Models. Due to the nature and caliber of the Fashion show, they had the best work with them. Most of these beautiful and exquisite Models stood for hours on their feet, with or without heels. They were becoming to look at, they made the clothes and the person/s that designed them look good. Which was the end game. These ladies and/or gentlemen were trained professionals and they did their job. Now as beautiful and as endearing as they were to look at in the final stages of display, there were some not so glamorous and rigorous preparations that took place behind the scenes. There were months and weeks of preparation that took place before show day.

Designers contacted agents who submitted pictures and resumes. The Designers got to pick who they wanted to display their work/creation. They decided how they wanted their work displayed because they had a vision in their creation and they (the designers) best knew how it could be portrayed or displayed. They could do that, after all they were paying for it. There were fittings and trials and the usual running around that comes with showcases of this magnitude. So by the time it hit the glossy pages, every person worked real hard. Including that model, that appeared to be striking such an easy, common and captivating pose.

Eventually, the Model's face hits the 'Cosmo' pages. And maybe some character who happened to grace the grocery store years ago with her, expresses their displeasure. She could have done a better job with that pose the embittered one complains. What is the big deal anyway? But thank God there are some that are wise and supportive. Or maybe another scenario; a group of disgruntled and listless people break into that show and demand to pose too. Set up some picket fences and start a commotion. After all, all you really need is a face-paint and a defiant stance and 'viola' you too got yourself a show. Or wait before you go, one more scenario; a woman who 'turns people into puppets' shows up with advice. She has more inside information than the people inside the information.

Oh please give this child a break!!!

The model need not say much though. But the Designer might say something along these lines. This is My show, My idea, My creations/designs. And I will chose whom I want, and run it the way I please!

Yes SIR!! You sure will...
