CINDERELLA (Glass Slippers or Blue Shoes?)

Writer's picture: Chioma OnwudiweChioma Onwudiwe

CINDERELLA is on Broadway!!! Glass slippers and all. I am so excited. It is one of my favorite 'fairy tales'. Not because I enjoy camping out in 'La-La Land'. But because when I did dwell by the cinders due to some unfortunate circumstances in my childhood, I sought solace in my very vivid imaginations and fantasy became one of many forms of refuge. I love how justice was served when that glass shoe fit Cindy's feet. Enough said. These may be called tales, but I believe they stem from real life situations and experiences.

My other favorite was 'Sleeping Beauty'.Since I just like 'Sleeping Beauty', had a spell cast on me. First as a little girl and secondly around the time I was supposed to find my niche and take my place in society. But then I woke up... So there I was sitting on my hands wide awake technically, but unable to function to my full potential. Tied-up and encircled by very devious characters. Meanwhile the call of purpose and destiny circled around me in utter confusion. They (purpose and destiny) were probably thinking "when will she get it?"

I am eternally grateful though, because it could have been worse. Thankfully, where Cinderella had a fairy god-mother that showed up and turned everything around, I had a Holy GOD-Father Who was always there guiding and protecting me from severe harm and destruction. And the good news is my pumpkin is slowly but surely becoming a majestic (never been seen and conceived before) carriage.

Cinderella had a one time magical experience, I literary have everyday miracles and supernatural adventures. There is one other fairy tale that tells the latter part of my story, but I cannot reveal it now. You have to stay tuned.

Oh I forgot to tell you... I got a letter the other day that was an epitome of the expression insult upon injury. Here is what it said:

Dear Cinder-CHIOMA-rella,

I had to face the court of law the other day about giving back to you, what I had manipulatively and deviously stolen from you. But I told them I used it to buy you a carriage, a ballgown and blue shoes. I also claimed to have bought your ticket to the King's ball. So I owe you nothing. Its all mine now.

Yours deceptively,

Oppressor #1

My reply (In my head): Wow! Good for you. I thought my Holy God-Father did all that stuff for me. While I was stripped and banished in misery to the cinders by the oppressor, He showed up and turned everything around ... And HE does not like anyone else taking the credit! Oops, its about to get real hot in here. So I rest my case.

Who needs blue shoes anyway? I am a carriage driven, ballgown (with diamonds) wearing, GLASS SLIPPERS kind of girl!!!
