PART SIXTY:
Peek-a-boo...:
“The sighting of one snake, can mean that there are more snakes where that one came from.” He supplied, looking around his feet. His comrade also began to look around him, turning around dramatically as he did. And then one of them, seeing some movement behind the large curtains. Asked; “What’s behind the drapes?”
“What do you mean? What’s behind the drapes?” Snapped a now highly irritated and annoyed palace security guard. These two men were obviously an un-serious and time wasting bunch, he was starting to figure out.
They had almost succeeded, in interrupting his security check rounds and taking up his building surveillance time. All the while, making rampant suggestions, submissions and stupid sentiments. “The curtains hang stately and neatly, as they should and as they always have.” He supplied almost immediately, without waiting for an answer to his previous question. “Surely," his voice dripped with annoyance as he continued. "You do not expect, the royal palace to describe and disclose its décor to you.” He felt his voice was rising, so he made a conscious effort to lower it.
“No, not at all.” Countered the man who had asked and who was now stepping towards the drapes. His friend quickly followed suit, both their eyes fixed on the area of suspicion. “I just wondered, because it appeared that someone or something was behind there.” He finished, never looking at the guard. Focused on the drapes, as if he were about to unravel some mystery in or behind it. His comrade was standing close behind him, just as intrigued. Stretching his neck across his partner's shoulder, to look on in expectation.
“Stop right there!” Shouted the guard, taking long and swift strides towards the drapes also. “Do not go any further,” he concluded his instructions.
“Excuse me officer.” Started the man who had made the first move, towards the wall of curtains. “We are just trying to see, what could be going on behind there.” He pointed hesitantly, having halted at the guard’s order. “If there is anything to be seen, or found out.” Began the guard, now towering and glowering over the intruder. “It is my job to do and for you not to interfere.”
“Now please move away from the curtains,” he directed. While stepping back himself, to make room for their backward retreat. “We were just trying to….”
“Step away from the curtains, I said.” He was beginning to contemplate, calling for backup. These two were mentally driving him, up the wall. When they had complied, by stepping back. And he was certain, they were standing exactly where he wanted them to. The head security guard, stepped towards the drapes himself. Grabbing two evidently overlapping sides of the rich thick and silky cloth, he peered behind it.
Gone with the (whirl) wind:
Dark smoke whirled viciously, in a violent spin of dust mixed with rushing wind. Blowing and venting violently, like torrents as it spun into the crypt. Heavy and saturated with chaff, the gust of wailing wind. Sent particles swirling, inside the equally dense atmosphere of the doomed pit. The six present monitors, did not duck, dodge or try to prevent floating and flying debris from either hitting, or settling on them. They were very much aware, that this was a fury induced entrance.
An arrival clearly indicated, by the heated and raging surge of environmental elements.
The ‘fly-lord’s eyes, glowed like smoldering coals. Piercing through, a now settling fog of dark smoke. They appeared and showed up first, before the rest of his physical manifestation. “What is this I hear of friendships and bonding,” he bellowed to none in particular. His eyes instantly forming slits, that were as indignant as they were intimidating. “Why are those children, still roaming together?” The master of depravity asked, now leveling his eyes on Heinus. That one stepped away, from where he had been bunched together with the others “Of course my lord,” he started. He as the first and head monitor, automatically served as the spokesperson for his cohorts.
“Their union, howbeit temporary. Is absolutely of no threat. It is definitely of no relevance and consequence, in the full scope of things.” He finished and nodded reassuringly, at his lord. “So many words used and still you have not answered my question. Why are the children together? Are you not aware of the obstacle, that this may cause for our mission?” Heavy fumes escaped his mouth, as he spoke and looked around at all the monitors. They were standing still and watching him intently, howbeit solemnly.
“They are all connected in one true story. And we cannot afford, to have them united. Allow a few little truths to come together and you have the Truth. I will not have or tolerate any of that. Do I make myself clear?” His now widened eyes, scanned the assembly of silent and static followers. “I am the father of lies and I must destroy, every link or semblance of truth.” With that statement, he vanished into the wind from which he had come. Leaving behind hanging soot and receding smoke.
Sneaky is as sneaky does:
Dezen watched Rifra, as he supervised the cleaning staff in the main palace hallway. The senate had just finished the first part of their morning session and were taking a short break. The sixth magistrate, was heading back to his apartment. An edifice, that was in the vicinity of the kingdom and a walking distance. He had forgotten all about following up, with the incident report that he had demanded from the housekeeper. It also appeared that one, might be avoiding him because he had not seen or heard from him ever since.
Walking stealthily, he approached the housekeeper from behind. Rifra was speaking to two waiting staff, when he heard the magistrate's voice. "Well well well, who have we here today?" Dezen sneered, sending the waiting staff scampering indirectly. "I never heard from you again, about that incident that took place at the main front gate. Did you find out what it was about or who it was causing all that ruckus?" The housekeeper turned around swiftly, but dreadfully. "Good day counselor, I never saw you coming." "Of course you did not," submitted the magistrate with another smirk.
"I know I was the last person, that you expected or wanted to see. But here I am and so it is." He paused, to let the implications of that announcement sink into Rifra's head, before continuing.
"Now do you have that incident report, that was supposed to have been ready a while ago?" "An incident sir? There was no incident. We took care of everything and there was nothing to report. It was just an old staff member, that came back for something. Everything was resolved the same day." He concluded, giving the counselor a polite but half smile. "Everything was resolved the same day?" Dezen started, the smirk never leaving his face. "Very impressive, I must say Rifra. Very impressive. However, my question still remains. What was the 'everything' that was resolved."
