The Ada-Ventures

BOOK ONE: 'SAYING GOODBYE'

PART TWO (of Book One cont'd): A STRANGE PLACE

Sleepy head...

Ada lay back on the hard bed, with her legs curled and her hands still covering her face. It helped her not to look at the wall, when her face was covered. She lay there, listening to the sounds still coming from outside the room. There were still people shouting and others were crying loudly. Maybe the shadows on the wall were making the people cry too, thought Ada to herself.

The door opened again. This time two smaller women talking to themselves walked into the room. The little girl moved her hands from her face just a little, to peek at the women. They were moving what looked like plates and pans. Ada closed back her hands on her face even tighter. She wanted the women to think she was sleeping. Ada was afraid they would rub her face too. Or give her the food she did not like to eat again. But the women continued to work with the plates and the pans. When the little girl saw that they would not rub her face, she removed her hands from it. Then she fell asleep....

She dreamed her mummy was holding her in her arms.

Then someone tried to pull Ada away from her mummy's arms.

They pulled real hard, until it hurt Ada.

But Ada's mummy held on tight.

Then there were two people pulling, then three and four...

Ada stopped counting.

Ada's mother was still holding her, when she put her little arms around her mother's neck.

"I love you, mummy." Said Ada to her mother.

Ada's mother wanted to say something back to her little girl.

Then someone hit her from behind and then she fell back.

The little girl began to cry.......

And then she woke up. Somebody else was holding her now. They were stronger and bigger than Ada's mummy. So she began to cry again and then tried to run away. But the big strong hands held on tight like Ada's mummy had held her in the dream. Then the big strong arms said her name. It was her daddy! Ada's daddy had come into the room, that had the shadows on the wall. Ada was happy now. No one would take her from her daddy's big strong arms.

"Where is mummy?" Ada asked her daddy. She wanted daddy's big strong arms to hold her mummy also. Then maybe she would not have to fall, like she did in the dream.

An angel is gone.

"Mummy has gone home now," said daddy sadly. "Can we go with her?" Asked Ada. She did not think her mother should go home alone. Ada was afraid that those bad people in the dream would hit her mummy again. Ada's daddy was quiet but still sad. Then he said: "We cannot go home with mummy now. We have to wait here. But someday, we will get to see her again. When we finish our adventures."

"Oh good!" Said Ada clapping her little hands. "Daddy and I are going on an adventure!" She was still clapping her hands. "Daddy," said Ada. "Yes my little one." Answered her daddy. "Will mummy come on an adventure with us?" Ada liked it when she was with her daddy and mummy. "Next time she will." Said daddy with a little smile.

"Daddy."

"Yes Ada."

"Will mummy know where to find us, when we go on our adventure?"

"Yes she will." Answered daddy.

"Can I say good bye to mummy, daddy?" The little girl wanted to know.

"I already said good-bye to mummy, for both of us." Replied her daddy.

"Okay then," said Ada as she rested her head on her daddy's shoulder.

After a few minutes, she turned her head away so her daddy would not hear her speak. Then Ada whispered softly into the air. "Good-bye mummy, I promise I will take care of daddy."
